I used to teach languages until I once tried to do subject teaching From that time on I wanted nothing else than to teach a specific discipline in English I think its more interesting to explain the problem and the way to solve it rather than to talk about everything and nothing By no means do I undermine those who teach languages only Its well known by those who ever tried to do itthat language teaching is perhaps the most difficult discipline of all In order to be considered a good language specialist one has to be knowledgeable erudite educated experienced in other words represent everything that draws students attention to and that in itself is a work of art As far as I am concerned I consider myself a bit short tempered trying to squeeze in my class as much as I can That is why I prefer subject teaching to pure language teaching practice but if necessary I teach languages too Though it requires more work to prepare the class properly
