About Merryn
Welcome! My specailty is working with K-10 students in Language Arts and Mathematics, to raise academic achievement. I have had special training in reading and mathematics instruction, which has given me valuable insights into how we learn to read and think mathematically. I can provide a placement test that will give you information on where your student is now and together we can make a plan that will make a significant gain. I think it is important to have a little fun while we learn, too! I am currently licensed K-6, Middle School Language Arts and Middle School Mathematics. I am also certified in MYP IB for Language Arts. I have had many ESL students and would be happy to work to improve English proficiency in the subject areas. It is fun to learn when you know you are making great progress towards your dreams!

Specialities
In Language Arts, my students will have lessons in the Science of Reading, to improve decoding skills, reading fluency, and comprehension. I can teach beginning readers, including children and adults, as well as work to improve skills for studednts at each grade level. If requested, we can integrate spelling and writing skills into the instructional plan. In Mathematics, the lessons will be balanced with computational skills and math thinking skills. I make sure my students are able to use the 10 basic math thinking skills needed for success in math. My multi-cultural students make significant progress, improve report card grades, and scores on standardized tests. I enjoy seeing my students and like to stay connected to the family. Often I end up teaching siblings, cousins, and parents of my students! I currently have students from Asia, Europe, and Africa. All of my current students have excellent marks on their report cards.
